I’m working on a set of design for the portfolio that I’ll show as soon as I finish them. In the meanwhile, I got back to sketching with ballpoint pen (last ones were in Singapore in July) motivated by a few people around me who sketch in traditional so I do one sketchbook page everyday. It’s enjoyable to relax and take a break from the serious stuff, and hopefully my drawing skills will get better too. I’ll post more pages when I have another bunch, sorry for the bad image quality, pictures taken with camera.
Last weekend I got back to the last assignment I did for FZD. Some of you maybe remember how I tried to polish a bit more the work with values on my livestream after the class and how I posted that result here. But I thought was a piece worth to put in the portfolio so I added color and refined a bit more. Hope you like it
I saw many people doing this but it wasn’t will the other day when Brent did it that I was motivated to redraw an old piece. I’m glad I did it, because here you can see all the days with lack of sleep, all the days saying my friends I preferred to stay at home working, my interest on learning from many different artists, the headaches those days struggling or my fights against distractions…THIS IS NOT TALENT, THIS IS HARD WORK.
I have to say I spent more time on the new one, but, last year was not a matter of time, I knew almost nothing about anatomy, light and color, design, etc.
I still have to improve a lot so, keep the hard work!!
A few car designs inspired by a sketch Scott Robertson posted the other day on Facebook.
A couple of sketches
In order a drawing of Asakuda, Japan, and Greg, a character/creature design.
Some new stuff after a while without updates
Personal stuff next week
Another vehicle study, need to do more, not confidence enough yet
I’ll keep doing these till I feel fast and good enough to jump to my own designs
Study of a NIMR vehicle I just finished
Back to Barcelona. Here’s a collection of some of the drawings from my sketchbook, mostly faces because it’s what I usually never draw at home. I drew all those with a ball point pen, in the train, coffee shop, street, plane or whenever I was out and had nothing to do.
The courses at FZD are over, today I had the last class and only 4 days left in this country. So sad, but already thinking on my next movements over the next weeks, basically, work on my portfolio….
Creature design from tonight’s livestream
A few more stuff
Creature painted on last night’s livestream
Almost 4 weeks here, soon I’ll have to leave and I didn’t even start doing sightseeing over the city……so sad 😦
The references for the rendering studies are from the Gnomon DVDs of Scott Robertson.
With all the amount of work I have the feeling I don’t finish the works as well as I’d like but no time for more 😦 Anyway, glad to finally get into vehicles 😀
Digital ones from the livestream and the traditional ones drawn on the flight way to Singapore
It’s been 3 weeks since I said I was going to start working on a personal project to reinforce my design skills, get ready for FZD and feel it like a real job in some way.
But I failed, I’d like to say now everything was right but it wasn’t, I have to learn from this failure and repeat it again in the future because is something I recommend to anybody.
I painted this illustration just as “teaser” of something that I hope gets bigger with time.
Now I can explain what was the idea, in the 3 weeks, I was goinn to work on a project with a script part written by me and part written by a friend who was going to act as a client. There were deadlines, revisions, etc. And the part of the script I wrote was to set up a story with elements I would not be comfortable with because of the lack of experience but I was interested in.
The point is I wanted it to be like a bloodsports challenge, something where I not only practice, but also study new stuff. So the first week was going to be full of study and the other 2 designing and doing a few more studies if required.
The first week was right, live streaming only 1 hour a day I had a lot of time to keep focused studying.
